Gordon is Professor of Innovation and Society and trained as a Sociologist. He is passionate about the impact of Social Design. He was formerly Head of The Innovation School at the GSA and is interested in exploring the intersection of technology, ecology and society.

Marianne comes from an Aeronautical Engineering background and has worked with the Glasgow School of Art in her current position for 12 Years, Marianne played a major role in the development of the Highland Campus and the development of the School of Innovation and Technology.

Steve's primary research expertise is investigating the impact of mobile technology and digital applications and services on people's behaviour and the implications of this from both a formal and informal learning and usability perspective. Steve has led and been a project partner on research projects that have been sponsored by funders.

Professor Martin Newth

Head of School of Fine Art

Martin has been with The Glasgow School of Art since May 2024. Martin has previously held the posts of Assistant Dean in the School of Arts & Humanities at the Royal College of Art in London, previously Newth was the Programme Director of Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London.

Professor Stephen Bottomley

Head of School of Design

 Stephen has been with The Glasgow School of Art for 2 years. Stephen studied at the Royal College of Art and was previously at Birmingham City University as Head of the Institute for Jewellery, Fashion and Textiles.

Professor Sally Stewart

Head of the Mackintosh School of Architecture

Sally Stewart is an Architectural Educator and Researcher, Sally has been a external examiner and visiting lecturer in institutions across the UK, Japan and Europe. She is a member of the EAAE council, and project leader for the EAAE Education Academy established in 2015.

Professor Sarah Smith

Head of Research
The Glasgow School of Art

Professor Sarah Smith is Head of Research and Professor of Visual Culture at The Glasgow School of Art. Sarah has a BA from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin (1994), an MA from University College Dublin (1995), and a PhD from University of Glasgow (2007). Her research expertise is in visual culture, with specialisms in artists’ moving image and feminist art. Sarah's research is published in peer reviewed journals such as Screen, Sculpture Journal and Feminist Media Studies. Her book, Artists' Moving Image: Cinema as Archive was published by Bloomsbury in April 2026. Sarah supervises PhDs in artists moving image, experimental film and feminist art.

Professor Paul Chapman

Director of Emerging Technology

Professor Paul Chapman is GSA’s Director of Emerging Technology providing an in-depth knowledge of technology and computer science across the institution in order to maximise GSA’s digital potential in academic, research and commercial areas.

Previously Paul was Head of the School of Simulation and Visualisation (SimVis) at the GSA and before that Director of the Hull Immersive Visualisation Centre. Paul holds BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in Computer Science, he is a Chartered Engineer, Chartered IT Professional, Fellow of the British Computer Society and was an inaugural member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh's Young Academy.

Dr Albert Fuster Martí

Dr Albert Fuster is the Academic lead at The Glasgow School of Art Highlands & Islands campus, UK, and Programme leader for the MDes Design Innovation and Circular Economy / Environmental Design / Interaction Design suite. 

He was Academic Director at ELISAVA, Barcelona School of Design and Engineering. He has been a Researcher at “Open Schools for Village Hosts”, Erasmus+ EU funded project. He has been external advisor of the “Decoding European Creative Skills” Creative Europe EU funded project, Researcher at “INTRIDE. Soft, Digital and Green Skills for Smart Designer”, Erasmus+ EU funded project, and Member of the working group for the European Charter of Interior Architecture Training of the European Council of Interior Architects.
